Art In the Streets

We took advantage of the long holiday weekend to finally make it over to see the art exhibit all of Los Angeles is talking about. Art In The Streets is the first ever comprehensive retrospective of graffiti and street art. The scope of the exhibit is awesome, in the most literal sense of the world. The huge Geffen Contemporary space in Little Tokyo is filled to the brim with the best in street art, dating back to it's origins in the late 1960s. It was amazing to see how wide a variety the generic moniker "street art" encapsulates, from the early Latino gang writing on walls around Los Angeles, to the politically charged pieces by Banksy or the colorful work of Keith Haring.

Some of our personal favorite pieces were, as always, the folk-inspired work of late Bay Area artist Margaret Kilgallen as well as the installation by Brazilian brothers Os Gemeos. If you live in Los Angeles, stop by the show and let us know what your favorites are.

Anyway, The Beverly, a new hot spot is officially opening it's doors and we need one or all of you to meet us there to check it out and give it a good, long evening's worth of your time to make sure it is as amazing as it sounds.

Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse, and Guy Starkman; the owners and proprietors of Trousdale; have launched this club in the old space that used to house Guys on Beverly Blvd. It is industrial chic and was designed to be a laid-back hideaway with a spritz of glitz for the in-crowd to sit, sip and mingle in.

Get there. Just do it.

she makes us look so good!

Kris Chau is one of our favorite people in the whole wide world, and that's no exaggeration. Not only does she spend her days designing beautiful clothes, but she also works super hard as an artist and illustrator. We love her so much we asked her to draw murals for both our NY and LA showrooms, and that's her work up there on our blog masthead. This morning she sent over some photos of her outfit today, wearing none other than BC Footwear's Bike Ride clogs. Lookin pretty fresh in that white blazer.

Nicki Minaj rocks BC Footwear

Nicki Minaj rocked BC Footwear's "Day After Tomorrow" boots on the Billboard Music Awards on May 22. Originally she had pulled another pair of shoes to wear, but when Nicki saw her backup dancers outfitted in our boots, she wanted to wear them, too (despite the fact that they were a size too big!) Clearly, Nicki knows a good thing when she sees it. And from her multiple appearances as a guest host on E!'s Fashion Police, we know she's got style.

because yeasayer is playing at the music box tonight in hollywood! needless to say, we're more then excited to see what kind of performance this experimental brooklyn based band brings. if it's anything like their music videos it's going to be an amazing show!!

What about Bob?

A new trend is cropping up (literally) and it has nothing to do with fashion. It is all about the hair these days, and by that we mean the bob. 

So many celebrities are joining the "bob" ranks and in our opinion are rocking it right. 

If this feels too bold of a choice for you, start slowly or just admire some of the ladies below who have ventured successfully.

Givers of Sound.

Live music rocks. (Yes, we have been over this before) 

Something else that rules is when you go and end up discovering a new band in addition to rocking out to whomever you originally bought tickets to see. 

Drumroll....wait for it.....yes this happened to us recently when we went to see Joe Purdy. Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, aka The Milk Carton Kids were amazing. 

We consider ourselves givers, so here you go - get into their music and hopefully you too can see them live.

back to nature

There are definite perks we enjoy about living in the city: the museums, the culture, the fashion and there is no shortage of opportunities to see amazing live music.

However, every now and then we get that inkling to abandon the hustle and bustle and get closer to nature, set up a nice little house in a small community. Kate of The Longest Acres did just that, and she documents her daily life on her blog right here. She lives and works on a farm in North Carolina with her boyfriend, dog, 5 piglets, 2 kittens, 14 chickens, 2 goats, 1 baby calf and several thousand honey bees. For now, we'll have to settle for living vicariously through Kate's blog.

spring is turning into summer and were all super excited to bust out our open toed sandals (if we haven't already) and musk up for balmy weather. it also means our  nails and toes must be pretty at all times.

to celebrate, instead of choosing the standard pinks, reds and nudes to accompany your golden skin, go bold, use your nails like a canvas and be creative.

Marfa has long been on our list of "must-see" spots in the U.S., due to it's association with the incredible minimalist sculptor Donald Judd. But it seems that Marfa is now the site of a burgeoning art and craft community. This video produced by Etsy made us want to pack up our things and move there ASAP!

We get all pumped up whenever we hear that Texas electro-punk-country band Restavrant are in town. There is nothing else out there that sounds like this, I can guarantee you. I mean, where else will you see a DIY drum kit made from salvaged license plates. For real. If you're local, check them out at the Prospector in Long Beach tonight. And if you're not, well, just watch this...

So....we are a bit embarassed to admit it but we were all glued to anything and everything royal on Friday. (don't judge, you know you were too. ) ha ha...

Anyway, even though the fairytale continues for Duke/Prince William and his lovely bride Duchess/Princess Catherine there is still hope left for the rest of us. In one word, Harry. He's handsome, fun, walks the edge and is most importantly single.

Now we just need to figure out how to get to London and stay there for a bit. Any suggestions??
