Pop Music Crush

So excited about our newest pop music crush, Jessie J. At age 20, she started writing songs for stars like Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. But now Jessie J. is rocking center stage herself. She recently won Brit Awards Critic's Choice Award (previous recipients include Adele and Florence and the Machine) and now she's got Justin Timberlake and Simon Cowell calling her "the best singer in the world right now."

With her infectious pop grooves and stellar fashion sense, we can't get enough of Jessie J.

motivational speaking

Advice from a Rapper is the brainchild of Jessica Wright, a freelance graphic designer from Austin, TX. Each week, Jessica creates an illustration based on words of wisdom from a rap song. To quote Jessica, "In between all of the cussing, Cristal drinking and ass bouncing, in some rap songs, there lies inspirational words of advice to help you get through the day."

We couldn't agree more. A little Tupac in the morning definitely let's us know things are gonna be alright. This blog made our morning a whole lot better.

get the look: DARIA

Back when MTV still played music, they also were responsible for the coolest cartoon ever, Daria. A spin-off of Beavis and Butthead, Daria followed the life of high school student Daria and her best friend Jane. Role models for smart, misanthropic teenagers everywhere, Daria won our hearts with her sarcasm and wit and characteristic boots. And girls everywhere swooned for Daria's unrequited love, Jane's older brother Trent (is it wrong to have a crush on a cartoon character???)

artist we love

Kris Atomic is the alter ego of Kristina, a freelance illustrator, photographer, blogger and cat lover from Brighton, UK. Kris loves to draw colorful, sassy girls with a sense of humor and personality. And we love her drawings.

wanderlust

If the Sigur Ròs documentary Heima didn't make you want to visit Iceland already, Inspired by Iceland, part of a new campaign by Iceland's tourism bureau, will seal the deal. What a brilliant campaign and a breathtaking country.

Time to Celebrate the Ladies!

Awesome illustrator Kate Bingaman-Burt is working on a very special project for Women's History Month (which we should be celebrating all this month!). Last week she put out a call to action on Twitter, recruiting her friends and creative community help her, "Tell me about the women that you LOVE. Women you know, women you don't know, women that have changed your life for the better."

Rumor has it she will be putting out a downloadable zine to document the project. In the meantime, she is still taking names so get in touch with her and make your contribution to Women's History Month!

Lately I have been in the mood for a change of scenery, a respite away from my normal weekend routine. It's time to plan a mini adventure and what better place to relax and enjoy a little bit of sunshine, than at The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

It used to be a Howard Johnson's and Denny's restaurant, (yes, really) and was completely redesigned by COMMUNE in 2009. Ace is dog friendly, artsy, comfortable and serves organic free range food and yummy cocktails at their massive pool.

It is in your best interest to make it a must on your "where to go next" list.
