our new Los Angeles showroom featured on design*sponge!

Design*Sponge is one of our daily reads for inspiration in design of all kinds. Imagine how thrilled we are to have our showroom featured in their weekly "before and after" category! See the full feature here.

I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain...

One of our favorite things to do in Los Angeles in the summer is to head over to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for their weekly Cinespia film screenings. If the thought of reclining 6 feet above the remains of classic Hollywood film stars doesn't totally creep you out, it's the perfect way to spend a warm summer evening. Bring a picnic basket, a bottle of wine, and some good friends.

This weekend, a few of the BC girls are heading over to check out one of our favorite movies of all time, Purple Rain. We've got to admit, more than once we've daydreamed about being Apollonia, hopping on the back of Prince's motorcycle and riding off into the night. Since not all of us spend our days in night clubs rocking out with our all-girl band, here's our suggestion for how to get a toned down version of Apollonia's sexy leather and lace look.

cat power

We are majorly coveting this look by Liz of Late Afternoon. The double shot of leopard print is offset by a flouncy blush-hued blouse to achieve the perfect combo of girly and sexy. BC "Limousine" flats in leopard print available here.

The summer festival season is one of the most exciting times of the year, and now it’s one of the most giving, too! music to get you over the hump day

We just can't stop watching this video! We love everything about it: the irresistible soul vibe of the song, Janelle MonĂ¡e's retro James Brown style dance moves, and her one-of-a-kind style. It really doesn't get much better than this for a Wednesday.

DANCE DANCE PARTY PARTY!

It's simple: No Boys. No Booze. No Judgment. (Legwarmers Optional)

Who needs high heels, cover charges, or greasy leering dudes, when you can jam out at a women-only freestyle dance session with your favorite ladies! Rock out to your favorite tunes with no fear of judgement, and get an amazing cardio workout while you're at it.

The idea for Dance Dance Party Party was born in NYC by Glennis McMurray and Marcy Girt, who were nostalgic for the days of 10 year old sleepover parties, and decided that grown-ups needed a place to get goofy with their best friends. Soon, chapters spread across the country, and the phenomenon is still growing. Visit the website to learn how to start a chapter in your town.

notes from the studio

Summer is a great opportunity to take the trends from spring and blow them up! Jellies are fun! Wovens are huge— A fresh and funky way to update the woven or canvas oxford look is to wear cream colored ankle socks for a light and airy effect. CANDY COLORS are a must. Floral dresses? Yes, I think I might wear one every day!

our new digs!

there have been quite a few changes around the BC offices in the past few months. a big one is that we gave our Los Angeles showroom a complete overhaul. it looked like a disaster around here for a bit, with construction, painting, etc, but in the end it all paid off and we couldn't be happier with our new space!

cutest. idea. EVER!

It can be SO hard to think of what to get someone for their birthday, let alone think of something creative AND amazing AND well....not expensive. We found an answer! This birthday card suprise from Jordan Ferney's blog is just stinkin' adorable. Ferney, a San Francisco-based event planner, came up with the idea of making a birthday puzzle out of a blown-up photograph. Pieces of the puzzle are sent to friends and family with directions to add a note, picture, drawing, etc. They are then asked to send it back to the birthday girl/boy who will be receiving the pieces all week!

We loooove it, it really is the thought that counts!

Pop-Tarts pretty much speak for themselves, they are basically edible warm fuzzies. What could make the fuzzies, fuzzier? Adding amazing ingredients like Nutella and cinnamon sugar in a freshly home-made pastry dough. To die for? uh yeah. Checkout what the geniuses at smittenkitchen.com came up with.
