Totally awestruck by the story of Sister Corita Kent. Sister Corita was an artist and educator who worked in Los Angeles and Boston. She worked almost exclusively in silkscreen, helping to establish it as a legitimate fine art medium. She entered the Roman Catholic Church after high school, and spread her message of peace and love through her work. This message made her particularly popular during the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s, but her revolutionary ideas caused her to be disliked from the heads of the church. Her ideas and legacy live on today through the work she left behind, which include several hundred serigraph designs for posters, book covers and murals.

So happy to have stumbled upon this incredible Levi's Creative Workshop short film about Sister Corita. Check it out.

"The only rule is work.
If you work,
good things will happen."

Bold and Bright.

As we mentioned recently, we are in the mood for bright colors. Were not sure why... maybe it's because Summer's here or maybe it's because a little brighter is always better.

Either way, we want you to join us on our bold bandwagon, so we decided to offer up some inspiration. We started with our rad Grandfather Clock wedges and away we went.

Mid-Century Matte.

(all pictures shown courtesy of MatteArt)
We definitely have discussed this before but some things are worth repeating. We wish we could draw, paint and create in the way so many talented artists can!!

Exhibit A: Meet Matte Stephens, an amazing painter who lives and works in Portland, Oregon. Influenced by Mid-Century Industrial graphic design, his works are easy to spot among the masses.

See some of his paintings below, visit his etsy shop or to truly get to know him, follow his blog, Matte Art. We here at BC, tip our fedoras to you Matte and collectively say, keep up the good/great/amazing work.

Funny Girl.

(Kristen attending Glamour's 2011 Women of the Year Awards)

We dig Kristen Wiig. (we just realized that rhymes, sweet)

Anyway, back to the point, if you haven't seen Bridesmaids, run don't walk to a theater near you. Not only is it fantastically funny but it stars Kristen Wiig whom we have decided is our ultimate funny girl.
People know her from SNL but we are digging in deeper. Here are 5 facts about the lady who makes everyone laugh.
  • Was born in 1973 and raised in upstate New York.
  • Attended the University of Arizona, majored in art/graphic design but dropped out to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting.
  • Was a member of the acclaimed Los Angeles comedy troupe, the Groundlings.
  • Started on SNL in 2005 and became a company member in 2006.
  • co-wrote Bridesmaids with her good friend Annie Mumolo.
Kristen, we raise our glass to you; in funny girls we trust.

Listen Up!

(courtesy of Foster the People)
If you haven't heard of FOSTER THE PEOPLE yet, lie and say you have. ha ha.. This LA based band consisting of Mark Foster, Mark Pontius and Cubbie Fink took over SXSW in March and has not slowed down since.

Their sound is a mixture of beach synth meets rock.(yes it's true) Curious? Good, throw on a pair of your favorite BC'S and go see them live. Their upcoming shows and appearances can be found here.

We don't think there is anything better than new indie music to get into for the Summer. Agree or disagree, that is the question??

Enjoy~

Flippy Floppys named Picnic.

Ok, the weather is finally getting it together and staying warm. You know what that means....yup it is officially time to bust out your flips and stroll around in the sunshine.

Every season calls for one (or four) new closet additions and this Summer is no exception. Our Picnic flip flops are not only a jazzy addition to any outfit but they are comfortable. Wear them to the beach, a picnic (yes we went there), a concert or out at night.

The options are endless. Need we say more??

world premiere of BC TV! yeah!

We're so excited about the premiere of our first ever video lookbook! We got to hang out in the beautiful hills of Elysian Park and work with one of our favorite models, Katie Horwitch.. And the icing on the cake was that the super amazing musician Morgan Kibby of White Sea let us use her song as the soundtrack.

Are we all ready for summer now???

Jazzy meets bluesy meets Ellie.

Ellie Goulding is a singer, songwriter hailing from the UK. When asked to explain her inspiration she said, “I basically went from living in the city to suddenly living in the countryside. At first I hated it, but I slowly grew to love it and became completely fascinated by being surrounded by all this wide open space – it still colors everything I do to this day.”

She was hand picked by Kate & Will to perform at their wedding reception and has already begun making waves in the US with her new album, LIGHTS.

We saw her perform a semi-haunted version of the Elton John / Bernie Taupin original, Your Song and were hooked. Close your eyes and you hear a bit of Bjork mixed in with an original voice we are excited to be a fan of.

Sing it Ellie, sing it.
