Bare Necessities.

The Summer Set, a pop-punk band (4 guys and a girl) hailing from Scottsdale, AZ has hit the airwaves with an acoustic performance of their song, Mona Lisa

The description for how they pulled this off, is just as cool as the song and video itself.

"We filmed this performance in the desert on a beautiful summer night out by my house in Cave Creek, Arizona. We played our first few songs in front of one of the most breathtaking sunsets I've ever seen. We ran out of daylight when we got to "Mona Lisa" so we actually turned on all of our car headlights and faced them on our set to give it a special 'campfire vibe'."

Well done Summer Set, well done.

kitchen love

On the odd days we're not oversleeping and madly rushing out of the house, we love waking up early enough to sit at the kitchen table, leisurely sip a cup of tea, and catch up on our blog reading. This morning ritual would be that much sweeter if we had these bunny tea cups to sip out of, and this super cool print hanging on our wall.

Who's that Girl?

We found these amazing photos taken by the one and only Hedi Slimane about two weeks ago and knew they would be the perfect story to share.

We live in a content rich world, with access to (almost) anything and yet there are those moments when you find something that feels fresh. (This is fresh.)

If you haven't figured it out already, it's Frances Bean Cobain, (yes that Frances) and Leila Brillson from MTV Style said it best,

"How did this young thing pass us by? Why did we not notice her blossoming into a beauty or get to ogle her awkward teen stage? And how did her mother, Courtney Love, the mistress of very publicly courting drama, shield Miss Cobain from the ills of fame? Perhaps it is because the heritage of Frances Bean is as authentic rock and roll as it gets. Hers is, perhaps, the most real and pure rock star tale of all: born into a legacy that we all know and she never really will. But we are officially enraptured, not just because of who she is, but because she looks as if she has the capability to handle it. After all, she perfectly resembles the halfway point between her sensitive dad (those eyes!) and her volatile and fascinating mom (that daring face!)."

meet our newest style crush

Janie Cai is the fashion director for August Man, and the queen of menswear. We love her daring androgynous look: rocking loafers, trousers and bow-ties like only a true lady could. Plus, she manages to find that perfect blend of vintage and what is absolutely now. We can't wait to see more of Janie!

In the meantime, get her flawless menswear-inspired look with our Braid fringed bootie.

Wise Words.

We dig Friends of Type. Every day there are new, interesting, artistic renderings that we always wish we had thought of first.

As we were getting ready to pack up for the weekend, we came across this gem and decided to sit back down and share it with all of you. Read, absorb and follow.

Happy weekend, be safe and let's chat again on Monday.

Ode to The Civil Wars.

The Civil Wars is a duo composed of singer-songwriters Joy Williams and John Paul White.  Simply stated, they're amazing.

"In some ways, music doesn't get much more modest or minimalist than it is in the hands of The Civil Wars, a duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They travel without a backup band, and on their first full-length album, Barton Hollow, the bare-bones live arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements. Each song is an intimate conversation, and no third wheels or dinner-party chatter are going to interrupt that gorgeous, haunting hush"

We seriously dig them and couldn't have said it better. (one of us recently saw them in concert and is now a SUPERFAN). Hence, here we are sharing them with you.

Ps. If you haven't heard their music yet, you're welcome. ;)

We seriously love stumbling upon rad people, blogs, stories, designs, music etc. etc. etc. (this list could go on for a paragraph)

It happened again today (just now actually) when we found the amazing Smitten Kitchen blog authored by Deb Perelman, a freelance writer living and working in New York City.

To be brief, it's about food and by food we mean healthy, delicious and 'must try it ourselves' type recipes. We're in, we're sold.

Exhibit A. Blueberry Yogurt Multi-Grain pancakes
(all photos & recipe courtesy of Smitten Kitchen)

Blueberry Yogurt Multigrain Pancakes
Makes 12 to 14 4-inch pancakes
2 large eggs
1 cup plain, full-fat yogurt
2 to 4 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons butter, plus extra for buttering skillet
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup (62 grams) whole wheat flour
1/2 cup (68 grams) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (32 grams) barley or rye flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1 cup blueberries, rinsed and dried

Melt half of butter. Remove from heat and stir in second tablespoon of butter until melted. This keeps your butter from being too hot when you next want to add it to the wet ingredients.
Whisk egg and yogurt together in the bottom of a medium/large bowl. If you’re using a thin yogurt, no need to add any milk. If you’re using regular yogurt, stir in 2 tablespoons milk. If you’re using a thick/strained or Greek-style yogurt, add 3 to 4 tablespoons milk. Whisk in melted butter, zest and vanilla extract. In a separate, small bowl, combine flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir dry ingredients into wet only until dry ingredients are moistened. A few remaining lumps is fine.

Preheat your oven to 200°F and have a baking sheet ready (to keep pancakes warm). Heat your skillet or saute pan to medium. If you’ve got a cast-iron skillet, this is my favorite for pancakes. Melt a pat of butter in the bottom and ladle a scant 1/4 cup (about 3 tablespoons) batter at a time, leaving at space between each pancake. Press a few berries into the top of each pancake. The batter is on the thick side, so you will want to use your spoon or spatula to gently nudge it flat, or you may find that pressing down on the berries does enough to spread the batter. When the pancakes are dry around the edges and you can see bubbles forming on the top, about 3 to 4 minutes, flip them and cook for another 3 minutes, until golden underneath. (If you listen closely, after a minute you’ll hear you blueberries pop and sizzle deliciously against the pan.) If pancakes begin cooking too quickly, lower the heat. Transfer pancakes to warm oven as they are done cooking, where you can leave them there until you’re ready to serve them.

Serve in a big stack, with fixings of your choice. Do not anticipate leftovers.

We're Stylin'

Were diggin' on the color orange lately and really wanted to pair some fresh items with our Jellyfish semi-wedge sandals. After much consideration, (yes much) we think we landed on a good one to take you into the weekend with.

If were going full out here, (as we always do) we will call this our "feeling worldly" look.

Did we nail it?

awesome music video!

We love us some Best Coast, and apparently we're not the only ones. Best Coast fan Drew Barrymore directed the latest music video for "Our Deal" and she got an all star cast of her friends to star in it, including Chloe Moretz, Alia Shawkat, Tyler Posey and Donald Glover.

Check it out! And don't miss the special behind the scenes look at the fashion in the video right here!

NY Inspired

Were in New York City, oh yes we are. Feeling inspired and ready to show off our Spring collection.

Every time we make it back to this coast, we remember how much this city rocks.
